It is a rare gesture within a republic whereby the contributions of a past monarch is recognised in the present day by the government in a public and long standing manner.
This took place in Kupang, the capital city of the Nusa Tenggara Timor Province (NTT) in Indonesia last year. The provincial government through the local city government renamed the road leading to the residence of the Rajas of Kupang on Bakunase Hill as the Alfons Nisnoni Road. This was based on a decision number  93/KEP/HK/2010 dated 30th June 2011 by the Mayor of Kupang.
Bakunase has been the residence of the Nisnonis since at least between the late 16th and early 17th Century, having been recorded by various European historians and researchers. Even the famous Captain Bligh of the ‘Mutiny on the Bounty fame’ and part of great maritime history visited Baki Nisnoni the ancestor of the current Raja of Kupang at this very location of their residence. This was when Captain Bligh made a stop in Kupang to recuperate after the famous Mutiny on the Bounty.
The naming of the road after Don Alfons Nisnoni was done based on the petition of the local residents and supported by the members of the local government to commemorate the naming of the late Don Alfons Nisnoni as Hero or Warrior of NTT by the provincial government. It was done by the authority and act of the local government in consideration and to honour the various contributions of Don Alfonsus Nisnoni towards the history of administration/ruling and development within Indonesia especially the Nusa Tenggara Timor Province.
The title and honour of Hero or Warrior of NTT clearly and without question recognises the contributions made by Don Alfons to the people of Kupang and Nusa Tenggara Timor. This ensures that his name and of his illustrious royal family lives on within Kupang in a very public and prominent manner.
It was done at a public ceremony attended by the various members of the Nisnoni family, including Don Leopold Nisnoni, who was the Crown Prince when Don Alfons Nisnoni was the Raja of Kupang. Don Leopold Nisnoni is the successor to Kingdom of Kupang.

The road also ensures that the link with the Nisnoni Dynasty continues within Kupang and NTT as with other tangible evidences of their existence within Kupang. During the same time period, the Cultural and  Tourism Office of the government of Kupang City put up an official signage at the Royal Graves of the Nisnoni Kings along the same road to officially mark the location of the royal graves.
The Nisnoni Dynasty is still held with high regard by the people of Kupang and Nusa Tenggara Timor. The family are part of the living history of Kupang and Nusa Tenggara Timor
